IELTS Course Structure

Week One
Reading
You will learn the Reading techniques which will be essential for success in IELTS. You will learn "skimming" and "scanning", paraphrasing, summarising and how to select paragraph headings. You will also practise questions of the type Yes/No/Not Given. You will be working closely with your Tutor and your fellow students.
Writing
You will learn the Writing techniques which will be essential for success in IELTS. You will focus on the skills needed for Writing Task One. You will learn how to describe graphs, bar charts, pie charts, tables and diagrams. Throughout this first week of your course, you will be working with the course book "Insight into IELTS" and supplementing this with material from "A Book for IELTS" and examination materials provided by Cambridge Examinations.
Listening And Speaking You will focus on Listening skills.
At the end of the week you will be tested on the skills you have learned and you will receive feedback from your Tutor on your progress to date.
Week Two
Reading
With your Tutor and classmates, you will revise and practise the question types you learned in Week One. Towards the end of the week you will begin to focus on timing and on working independently. You will complete short timed tasks in class with detailed feedback from your Tutor.
During this second week you will be using examination materials provided by Cambridge examinations.
Writing In Week Two you will focus on the question types which are characteristic of Writing Task Two.
Listening And Speaking
In Week Two you will focus on Speaking as well as Listening. You will practise all three sections of the Speaking Test. Listening practice will be based on Cambridge Examination materials. There will be an opportunity to do a rehearsal for the Speaking Test. This will be recorded on audio tape; your performance will be assessed according to examination criteria and discussed with you in detail.
At the end of the week, you will be tested and feedback will be given.
Week Three
Reading
The emphasis during this final week will be on timing and, towards the end of the week, you will be doing practice exams under exam conditions. You will receive detailed feedback from your Tutor on your progress. At the end of the week you will take the IELTS examination at an approved Centre or, if you have not enrolled for the examination, you will do a practice examination in Wallace College.
Writing In this final week you will practise both task types and the emphasis will be on timing.
