University Foundation Courses At Wallace College |
||||
With over 30 years' experience of preparing British students for university and of assisting them at all stages of the application procedure, Wallace College is uniquely placed to offer a similar service to overseas students. To be accepted on to the course, students must have an appropriate level of English (IELTS 4.5, Cambridge First Certificate or TOEFL 450.) If a student has not been assessed in English then a satisfactory level on the Wallace College Placement Test must be achieved before a place can be confirmed. Students must also have successfully completed a course of secondary education in their own country. English will be studied throughout the Foundation Course and students will be entered for the IELTS examination when they are ready to do so, i.e. when, in the opinion of their teachers, they are likely to achieve at least 6.0 in the Academic IELTS. There are 2 Foundation programmes to choose from. Students will choose from the subjects listed below. The number of subjects studied will differ according the university applied to and the nature of the course. At least 2 subjects must be offered at Higher grade for entry to further education. It is more common for students to study 3 or 4 subjects.
Students on both programmes will attend English classes in the morning and have classes in their other subjects in the afternoon. They will have the opportunity to study alongside British students taking the same academic subjects. Wallace College is a recognised examination centre for all major Examination Boards in the UK (AQA, Edexcel, OCR and SQA). Students will be prepared for SQA Higher examinations which will qualify them for admission to universities throughout the UK. If students have recognised qualifications from their own country then they may not need to take the examinations at the end of the course. |

Pre-Foundation Courses |
||||
The Pre-Foundation Course is available to students who have not completed their secondary education in their own country and wish to complete their studies in the UK. This is a one-year course. Students will spend the first term (September to December) learning English. The school day will begin at 9.00am and end at 3.00pm Monday to Friday. In the second and third terms (January to June) students will continue with their English classes from 9.00am to 12.30pm each day, but will also begin studying other subjects. At the end of the first year students will take the Cambridge IELTS test to establish their level of English. They may also take Standard Grade examinations in their academic subjects if sufficient progress has been made. Upon successful completion of the Pre-Foundation course, students will be offered a place on the Foundation Course for the next academic year.
