The City Of Edinburgh

Edinburgh is an internationally renowned centre of learning. The University of Edinburgh was founded in 1583 and was joined by Heriot-Watt University in 1966 and Napier University in 1992. Edinburgh is also "The Festival City" - home of the International Festival and Fringe, which take place every August. In the spring the city hosts the International Science Festival.

There are numerous libraries, theatres, concert halls, art galleries and cinemas, including the Filmhouse which specialises in classic and foreign-language films.

Edinburgh is also well provided with sporting facilities. Swimming pools, sports and fitness centres abound. There is year-round skiing on the artificial slope at Hillend and the Pentland Hills are just a bus-ride away for hill-walking and mountain biking.
